Bernard has been practicing law in NSW for twenty eight years. He has developed a reputation as a passionate defender of civil rights in numerous successful and high profile cases. Bernard is a barrister but retains accreditation by the Law Society of New South Wales as a Specialist in Criminal Law and is also a current Member of the NSW Law Society's Criminal Law Committee. Previously, as Principal Solicitor for the Aboriginal Legal Service (ALS), he supervised and also personally handled thousands of criminal cases across NSW. After six years with the ALS, Bernard established his own practice in Newtown where he practised successfully for fifteen years, then moved to an in-house counsel role with Sydney criminal law firm Armstrong Legal. Bernard has been a consultant Criminal Law Specialist with Baker Ryrie Rickards Titmarsh since February, 2007, initially as a solicitor and now as a barrister.
