Brad Watts is Director of Baker Ryrie Rickards Titmarsh Solicitors, Attorneys & Conveyancers - Sutherland & Newtown.
Brad commenced his legal career in 1989 when he started working as a law clerk at the firm he now owns.
“What I do mostly is assist people to deal with the legal issues in their everyday lives. I sit down with my clients in their home or workplace, at court, or in my office, and go carefully through their issues and explain their options. I see my job as helping people to fully understand their situation so they can make informed decisions about what to do. I listen carefully to my clients’ concerns and I give them straightforward responses so they know where they stand. Once my client's have decided how to proceed, I make it happen with minimum fuss."
Brad graduated from University of NSW in 1993 with Bachelor of Arts/Bachelor of Laws and was admitted as a solicitor of the Supreme Court of NSW in February 1994.
Brad is a dedicated general practitioner and has substantial experience in all areas of general legal practice, including extensive experience appearing in court. Brad’s particular areas of professional interest are in criminal sentencing law, business & commercial transactions and
commercial & general litigation (including business and property disputes, personal injury cases and contested estates). Brad has prepared and advised on countless Wills, Powers of Attorney and Powers of Enduring Guardian documents. Brad can assist you with understanding and implementing these important personal documents.
Brad was born and bred in The Shire (a mad Sharkies supporter, unfortunately!) and now resides in Newtown with Robyn, his wife of 12 years. Brad is an enthusiastic citizen of the world, with a passion for travel. His other passions include cricket, reading & writing, wine & food and, of course, music – Brad has managed a number of rock bands in Sydney, has performed as a stand-up comic and still loves attending live gigs.
Brad is a former Executive Councillor of NSW Young Lawyers, chaired their Social Committee and has been a member of the Criminal Law Committees of NSW Young Lawyers and the Law Society of NSW. He is a current member of the Law Society of NSW.
REPRESENTATION AT COURT
Brad is a seasoned courtroom advocate, having appeared regularly in most NSW courts since 1994. Brad has assisted thousands of clients with police cases such as drink driving, AVOs, assaults, drug matters and all types of criminal charges. Just a few of his many impressive results include:
- Acquittal after a jury trial of a professional man falsely accused of sexual assault to which he had allegedly confessed;
- Acquittal after a jury trial of a 19 y.o. girl charged with dangerous driving after she crashed her vehicle into 3 police cars, injuring 7 police officers;
- Charges dismissed against a man accused of seriously assaulting his neighbour, after a lengthy Local Court hearing where self-defence was successfully raised;
- Charges dismissed for the second time against a young man on his second set of drugs charges, with the Magistrate ordering the police to pay his legal costs due to their inappropriate behaviour;
- Literally hundreds of “Section 10” 's for various offences (especially drink-driving offences), where the charge was dismissed without conviction or penalty.
Brad is also an experienced civil litigator, having run and won civil cases in nearly all NSW courts, with some of the recent highlights including:
- Successful resolution of a claim for medical negligence by a 36 y.o. woman whose breast cancer was not detected upon first examination by her GP and radiologist;
- Substantial damages obtained for a very young child who suffered brain damage when he fell from a third-storey window, after a case that lasted 7 years and was strenuously defended;
- Successful outcome for a 30 year old lady left out of her father’s Will after a falling-out prior to his death which was not of her making – she was happy to reclaim her share of a family legacy for her children;
- Successful negotiated outcome after three days of hearing in the Supreme Court for a local couple who sought to remove an easement from their land, thereby greatly increasing the value of their property;
- Substantial damages obtained for a man who was severely beaten by police when they illegally entered his home;
- Countless disputes favourably resolved by negotiation without the need for costly and protracted litigation.
Brad can guide you through the court process and work with you to make sure you obtain the best possible result in court.
“For all court matters I take detailed instructions from my clients and I obtain all necessary evidence. I take time to understand my clients’ case and the result they hope to achieve, so I can work with them towards the best possible outcome, whether negotiated or litigated. In court, I always aim to represent my clients with diligence, honesty and integrity. I find this approach generally results in very good outcomes for my clients, from which I take great pride and satisfaction. I put my heart and soul into my advocacy work and I bring to bear the skills and experience I have gained from more than seventeen (17) years of appearing regularly in courts virtually every day.”
"For property and commercial work and when dealing with estates or drawing documents such as Wills, I bring a litigator's experience to the process and I can spot and advise on potential issues which may arise. I pay close attention to detail and ensure my client's position is protected and that they get what they bargain for. I take a down-to-earth, common sense approach to advising and negotiating and I believe it gets results."

TESTIMONIALS

"Prompt, reliable and diligent. That’s how I would have described Brad Watts, solicitor when I first met him over six years ago and that’s how I would describe him today. But I would now add consistent, trustworthy, hard working and unflappable. From the successful negotiation and completion of a multi-million dollar Hotel sale, to various commercial transactions and court cases, plus personal and family matters, Brad has always been there to assist. Brad shows great respect for others and a wonderful disposition, but most importantly provides correct and timely advice which I, along with many of my colleagues, have happily relied on.
