Apprehended Violence Orders
At BRRT we know that many AVO applications arise out of an assault (or other) charge, a Family Law matter, or an ongoing neighbor dispute. We appreciate that there are usually complex issues involved and we make sure that we obtain full details from you about the background to the application, so that we understand all of the issues and can work with you towards a solution that works.

We also know that complaints for an AVO can and often do include allegations of previous incidents and assaults and/or alleged conduct over a long period, particularly in circumstances where a marriage or long relationship has broken down. If the case is to proceed to hearing, all of that material can be and often is canvassed at the hearing. We know too that an AVO can impact on your ability to hold certain licences (especially firearms and security licences), your employment and your family arrangements. We always make sure that we fully understand the context and implications for you, so that we can properly advise you.

As with so many areas of law (and life!) dealing with an AVO application is all about knowledge. At BRRT we know how AVOs work and we advise you in detail of your rights and options, whether someone is seeking an AVO against you, or you are seeking protection against someone else. We understand and explain the procedure and we help you to decide how best to deal with the matter. There are pros and cons to all of your available options which you need to fully understand and consider before you can decide how to proceed.

At BRRT we are experienced at negotiating AVO’s at Court. Most AVO’s are applied for by police. At most Local Courts there are domestic violence liaison officers to assist the police prosecutor with AVOs and we can deal with these officers for you and often resolve the matter by negotiation as to the specific orders being sought.

We can also effectively represent you at Court for all AVO cases. We know the Court procedure and will explain it to you step by step so that you always know what is happening and can decide what to do.
